Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Hello and welcome back to a new school year!  I hope that you all have had a lovely summer holiday and are raring to go in year one!  I know that I am!  Keep reading for key information about Year 1.

Class Teacher: Mrs Nunn
Class Teaching Assistant: Miss Kennedy
We are also very lucky to have Mrs Glen, Mrs Dixon and Mrs West as part of the KS1 team.
Mr Twynam teaches in Year 1 on a Tuesday afternoon with a focus on science whilst Mrs Nunn has her time out of the classroom to plan exciting learning opportunities to help us grow as learners.

PE days: Monday and Wednesday.  No need for PE kit, just bring trainers or plimsols to change in to.

Reading books are generally changed on Fridays but this depends on the RWI programme your child is following.  Typically, this will be either every 3 or 5 days.  Children will be given 3 books. Two phonics RWI books that they are expected to read at least three times for them to be fluent and are able to answer comprehension questions.

The third book is a 'Reading for Pleasure'  book which will be taken home and is used to share with someone in  the family who will model reading aloud.  The children are not expected to be able to read this book independently but will recognise familiar words and will be able to their RWI strategies to read words!  After the third or fourth time of reading (or even tenth!) the book your child might be able to join in with the repetitive parts

If you have any questions, my door is always open or you can email using the following address... year1@moricetownprimary.co.uk For urgent messages, please contact the school office.

AutumnTerm 2021

Our Topic this term is: The history of toys!

We will be looking at a variety of toys, exploring and investigating the materials that they are made from, who would play with them and how do you play with some of the older toys.  Please share what your favourite toy was growing up with your child.
