Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Class Teacher: Miss Jennings

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Lewis and Miss Coombes

On this page, you will find some very useful information about the learning that you are expected to complete along with some helpful resources. We really hope that these are clear and easy enough for you to use but if you do have any questions at all about anything, please do not hesitate to send an email toyear5@moricetownacademy.org

Throughout our school day, we realise that there are many challenges and obstacles that the children have to overcome. With that in mind, a great way that we conquer these are by encouraging children to ROARR. This means  being Resilient, Open, Aspirational, Reflective and Resourceful in their learning both inside and outside of school. This will make them successful in what they try to achieve so give it a go at home and please tell us if your child has ROARRed by emailing year5@moricetownprimary.co.uk so we can celebrate this with them!

In Year 5, we are also positive role models to the younger members of the school!
We promote attitudes to be 'READY' to learn, 'RESPECTFUL' to everyone and 'SAFE' in our community.

In Year 5, we know that Parents/Carers are very important in ensuring that the children enjoy a successful learning experience.  We know that by working together we can equip our children with the skills, attitude and knowledge to make the most of their time with us.

Spelling log and learn books must come into school on a daily basis. We expect the children to learn these at home before their speed spell.

Please log on the 'Boom reader' app when your child has read. There is an expectation that children read minimum of 3 times a week.

Support your child with Reading, spellings and times tables are ways in which you can really help their progress.  Children are encouraged to read at home at least three times a week.

PE - These sessions will take place on a Monday and a Wednesday Please ensure that the children wear their PE kit to school on these days.

PE KIT - Black or grey shorts or tracksuit bottoms, white or green polo shirt, trainers or plimsoll.  The correct PE kit ensures that your child looks smart and ready to learn and keeps them safe whilst undertaking physical activity.  Long hair must be tied up.

Topic - Plymouth Explorers!

During terms 1 and 2, the children will be learning all about 'Plymouth Explorers'.

Throughout this exciting topic, the children will learn the route in which Sir Francis Drake Circumnavigated the globe.  They will learn about the timeline of Drake and how we can use primary and secondary sources to find information about the past.  The children will also learn about Shackleton and why he is considered one of the most prolific explorers. The children will learn about the roles needed for an expedition and the equipment required.

Useful Educational Websites

Please see the list of great educational resources that your children can use while at home! These are fun resources in which the children will often not feel that they are developing important educational skills so it really is a win-win if these are used!
