Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!
Class Teacher: Miss Everitt
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Penney
On a Thursday Mr Twynam teaches Science.
PE will take place on a Wednesday and a Friday. Please make sure your children are prepared for indoor and outdoor PE as we will be doing a mixture of both.
Books are changed once a week. Children will be expected to read the same book at least three times for them to be fluent and able to answer comprehension questions.
Children are expected to read as much as possible at home in order to build fluency and confidence. They can also access Mathletics on a computer or tablet. Every term I will be sending home a Home Learning sheet which has a variety of options to explore over the term. Children will get extra Dojos for completed homework, reading etc.
Spellings will be sent out on a Monday ready for a spelling test on a Friday.
This term our topic will be...
Ship Ahoy
Last week Year 1 and 2 had a visit from the famous Mr Brian Pollard. The children loved learning about how he paints and found some simple ways of drawing items such as hot air balloons, people and aeroplanes. They were fascinated that Brian lives in Plymouth and gets to create art work for lots of big events or shows.
The children had a great time at sports day! Thank you to all of the parent supporters.
Although the weather was terrible, the children loved their trip to the Aquarium. We learnt about different animals that live in the ocean and spoke about food chains and habitats. The children were able to get up close and personal with the sharks and found camouflage fish in the big tank. On our way back to school we took a drive through the Hoe to see the Lighthouse.
Last week, the children enjoyed painting pictures of the Hoe and seafarers ready to enter a competition. They looked at Brian Pollards work and have created pictures that follow his naive style of painting.
I hope you all had a lovely Easter. Well done to all the children and parents who did their homework over the holidays. With SATs fast approaching it is important to support your child as much as possible.
This term our topic will be...
Once Upon A Time
The Year 2s loved performing their song to all the parents this morning. We hope you enjoyed it.
Year 2 have loved practising their dance moves over the last couple of weeks with our dance teacher. They have learnt a Jazz style dance and lots of games they could play to improve their balance.
