Welcome to Year 2!

For the rest of the year, we also have Miss James - a student-teacher from Marjon.
On a Tuesday afternoon: Mr Twynam teaches Science.
PE will take place on a Monday. No PE kit, just black trainers.
Reading books are changed when the children require it.
Children will be given 3 books. Two phonics RWI books that they are expected to read at least three times for them to be fluent and able to answer comprehension questions.
Also one Reading for Pleasure book which they will take home and is used to share with someone in their family who will model reading aloud.

Children are expected to read as much as possible at home in order to build fluency and confidence.
Every term I will be sending home a Home Learning sheet that has a variety of options to explore over the term.
Children will get extra Golden Tickets for completed homework, reading etc.
Term 5 & 6
Our World... Plymouth!
In our final terms of the year, our focus turns to our local area. We will find out more about the amazing city we live in Plymouth!
We will explore Plymouth's geography by looking at maps and aerial pictures. We will explore some of its landmarks and (all being well) visit some of these places.
Then our focus will turn to the history of Plymouth, studying these landmarks to begin will then we will explore some of our famous people who come from our city.
In science, we will look at some of the wildlife and habitats in Plymouth as well as some of the plants we can grow here.

In art, we have been inspired by Andy Goldsworthy and created our own land art using natural materials from our local area.
In PE, we have been testing our reactions.
Terms 1 & 2
This term our focus has been on fire.
In term 1, We started the term by learning about London and its famous landmarks. We had a tour of London and designed our own tours.
In term 2, we started to look more at fire and its links to London study the history of the Great Fire of London. We started by creating a fire and safely learning about how to make fire. After this, we look at what happened and studied Samuel Pepys' diary and wrote our own versions.
We then made house and created our own model to show what happened in the Great Fire of London.

Term 3 & 4
This term we have looked at the whole of the United Kingdom and studied the countries. We have looked at the similarities and differences between all the countries and learnt the names of capital cities and national symbols. We have designed and made a features book as well looking at features that these countries have in common.
In Term 4, we turn our attentions to the amazing people in the NHS, namely the nurses. We will look at the history of nursing and study some of the famous nurses of the past who helped to shape nursing today.
