Welcome to Year 2!

On a Thursday afternoon, Miss Kennedy teaches RE and Music.
 
PE will take place on Monday and Tuesday.
Please can children wear their PE kits to school on these days. T-shirt, shorts, trainers or plimsolls and their school jumper. Children may wear dark coloured tracksuit bottoms in cold or wet weather. Please remember that children should not wear jewellery and earrings will need to be removed or covered for PE sessions.
 
Reading books are changed on Fridays.
Children learning to read with our Read Write Inc programme will be given 3 books. Two phonics Read Write Inc books and a Reading for Pleasure story which they can take home to share with someone at home who can model good reading aloud.
Children are expected to read least 3 times for them to help improve fluency and support comprehension. Children who have completed the programme and can now read fluently will choose two reading books from our library to bring home and share with you.

Term 1
 
Brilliant Britain
 
 
Geography:
This term, our topic focus is  Brilliant Britain. We will be building on our knowledge of landmarks in Year 1 and we will be learning to locate London and other capital cities in the UK. We will learn about key landmarks in England, Northenr Ireland, Scotland and Wales. We will also learn about the 7 continents. We use this song to help us remember:
 
Science:
This term we are learning all about animals including humans. We will learn the lifecycle of a child, why exercise and healthy eating is important for humans, that all living things reproduce and why humans need to keep clean to remain healthy.
 
Computing:
In computing this term we will be focussing on 'online safety'. We will talk about ways to remain safe online. This will include recognising our trusted adults who we can talk to when we are worried about what we see online. 
 
Art:
In Art this term we are focussing on the technique of printing. We will be using different materials to create different effects. Such as: sponges, pieces of lego, plastic sticks and other classroom materials. We will then create our own Union Jack Flag using different printing techniques.
