Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Throughout the Summer term, our topic will be 'Beside the Seaside'. In Geography, we will be learning about beaches, coasts and islands and we will be identifying physical and human geographical features of the seaside. In History, we will be comparing past and present seaside holidays and we will be exploring how seaside holidays have changed over time. 

In Science, our topics will be 'Plants' and 'Seasonal Changes'. In our 'Plants' unit, we will label the parts of plants and we will be identifying wild plants, as well as learning about deciduous and evergreen trees. In our 'Seasonal Changes' unit, we will be looking at the four seasons and what happens during them. We will also look at the different weather and daylight hours patterns that occur.

• PE is on a Tuesday (outside) and Thursday (inside). Please can your children wear their PE kit into school on these days?
• Reading books will be changed on a Friday and it is expected that children read their books three times. The first two books will be books that are linked to their Read Write Inc level and the third book is a 'Reading for Pleasure' book. This is a book that can be read by an adult to a child.
