Year 5 - Summer Term Week 13 Beginning 06.07.20

Year 5 Home Learning

English - The children will now have to complete one writing task, one spelling task, one handwriting task, one spelling, punctuation and grammar task and one reading task each week. However, we will still be encouraging children to read on a daily basis, whether that's on their own, to a parent or to a sibling!

Maths - We will continue to use the White Rose resources where we will provide links to the website where you will be able to watch activity specific videos before completing the activity sheets. However, similar to last week, there will only be four activities to complete so on Friday, please take some time to develop your multiplication confidence through the use of TT Rockstars or the Topmarks Maths website.

PE - Each day, we are still encouraging children to take part in the 'Exercise with Joe Wicks' activity on YouTube. This will allow children to stay active, fit and healthy while not being able to do their usual two hours of high quality PE each week when at school.

Topic - This week, we have provided you with ... different activities to complete. Each activity is linked to a different subject so please give them a good go. It would be great to see some of the topic learning being completed by posting pictures on the school's Facebook page :)

Just for Fun - The Just for Fun activities have been updated, with a few more ideas of different, engaging tasks that you can do. Remember though, these are just some of the things that you can do to have fun while also learn some great life-skills so if you can think of any yourself, please share these with us by uploading some photos to the school's Facebook page or emailing us on the email address below!

Please see a timetable which you can use if you're a little unsure how this would work on a day-to-day basis - we hope it helps but if you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to send any questions to year5@moricetownprimary.co.uk
Writing

In this week's writing activity, the children will have a variety of different challenges to choose from. With that in mind, they will have to plan, write and then edit and improve two pieces of writing from the PowerPoint provided. This can be written straight into your books so please make sure you take your time when forming your letters :)
Spelling

In this week's spelling challenge, there are five activity mats, focusing on five different words from the Year 5 and 6 Statutory Spelling List. Similar to last week, it would be great to have a spelling test of the words as the beginning of the week and then again at the end of the week to see if you have made progress :)

Some of the words are challenging so please remember to ROARR if you get stuck!
Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG)

Similar to last week, the children will be expected to complete a punctuation and grammar test this week. However, again, once they are finished, they will be able to mark them using the answers that are also provided.

Some of the questions will be a real challenge so the children can use Google if they want to as that is a great search engine where you can find answers to pretty much anything! :)
Handwriting

Using the worksheet below, can you please practise the words that are on the eleventh page straight into your book. Please don't worry about practising any more, as we will continue this activity next week where you will practise writing the words on yet another page! Just remember to take your time when forming each letter :)
Reading

The children will complete a similar activity that has been completed many times over the past few weeks as they will be expected to read and answer a variety of comprehension questions. However, they will have two reading booklets and will be given the opportunity to choose the 'star' difficulty level. However, once they are completed, they will also be given the task of marking them themselves by going through the answers to see which questions they managed to get correct as well as changing the answers that they got wrong. Good luck guys!
White Rose Maths Activities

Please can you carefully work through each of the White Rose maths activities. However, it is recommended that you go to the link below, where you will be able to watch activity specific videos to help you solve each problem.

Once you have accessed the website, please click on Summer Term - Week 11 (w/c 6th July) and watch the video for the specific activity that you're completing. We hope these help!

Remember, on the fifth day, can you please develop your multiplication confidence by using TT Rockstars and Topmarks Maths games :)
PE

Similar to every week, the children are expected to take part in some form of physical activity and we have provided you with the links to the Joe Wicks PE lessons each day. However, we thought it would also be nice to start trying out some yoga as this is known to relax both the mind and body! It also has many other physical and mental benefits so we have attached a link below to a really engaging set of videos on YouTube! We hope you have fun :)
Topic

In topic this week, the children will complete learning based on themselves, with activities being linked closely to the transition that they are going to make in September. If these cannot be printed though, that is not a problem as these can be written straight into their books :)
Just for Fun

Please choose some of the tasks off of the 'Just for Fun' grid below. This list is not exhaustive and you can choose to do other projects which interest you but we have also provided a link to a really nice website where you can complete some online mindfulness colouring so please give it a go! We have also added a nice music activity for you to try so please share your creativity with us by uploading pictures onto the school's Facebook page or by emailing photographs to us at year5@moricetownprimary.co.uk :)
